10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT AYMAR NAVARRO

When it comes to freeriding and the feeling of freedom it generates, being the first to mark the snow early in the day is indescribable. If not, let us know Aymar Navarro, one of the most recognized Spanish athletes and lover of adventure, who put Spain in the eyes of the powder lovers. In our article today we tell you this and many other things about the Aranese freerider Aymar Navarro.

1. THE MOUNTAIN HAS ALWAYS BEEN HIS REFUND OF ADRENALINE AND RELAXATION

He argues that, although it may seem crazy, opting for the mountains with the most inaccessible descents generates an adrenaline rush that becomes his best 'spa'. And he prefers this before walking through streets with cars and people, something that drives him crazy. Snow and mountains are in his DNA, and skis are an extension of his feet. To the Aranese who challenges slopes and rocks in virgin snow and who knows no limits, it is the mountain that puts him back in his place.

2. AN ALPINE CHAMPION WHO CHANCED TO EXPLORE AND BE FREE

The Aranese is one of the ambassadors of Spanish Freeride, who was born in 1989 in Val D'aran. He touched the snow slopes for the first time at the hands of his father, who took him to the descents mounted on the back in his backpack. His father, very surprised, saw that his 2-year-old son was not afraid of descents; on the contrary, they made him very happy.

So as soon as he learned to walk, he got on his first skis at the age of 3 and has since started competing in alpine skiing. But Aymar knew that there was something beyond the mountain. At the age of 17, she made a 180° turn and decided to explore the unexplored, finding her passion in it. The wide skate and the virgin snow changed his life. For a moment he thought he couldn't continue skiing, and then he ended up liking it a lot. So much so that to this day he has been the first Spaniard to compete in the Freeride World Qualifier, being among the 12 best in the world.

3. SURVIVING AN AVALANCHE

he likes to ski the most difficult and impossible areas in the eyes of others, and it was because of that adventurous spirit that he survived an avalanche. In 2013, while filming a video for one of his sponsors, he got caught in an avalanche, but his team allowed him to be on the snow and visible to the helicopter that ended up rescuing him. He felt how the mountain cracked under his skis and he only had to pray, since a snowball made him go round and round. Luckily, that team had ABS, something that, for those unfamiliar with skiing jargon, is a system that has a similar function to the airbag in a car. In this case, it allowed the skier to float at the time of the avalanche. Since then, Aymar has not left behind his shovel, arva, and backpack with the ABS that saved his life.

4. AYMAR NAVARRO IS A LOVER OF DOCUMENTING EVERYTHING

Aymar is aware of the lack of visibility of freeriding in Spain and the idyllic places where you can practice, which are many. That is why, with the help of friendly production companies, he has managed to record all possible documentaries that describe his life as a lover of off-piste skiing. Among them you can find: YamasdeSnowmads and Southlines 2017 and Drop in a Life. This latest documentary summarizes 5 years of the life of a freerider in the Aran Valley with all its feats, achievements, dangers and more.It is all these feats that have made Aymar a public figure, even participating in the famous Movistar channel #0 program "La Resistencia" in 2018. It is still a good approach strategy for that public that is less familiar with the world of Freeride, and without a doubt it helps to give visibility to this modality.

5. IF THE MOUNTAIN DOES NOT GO TO MOHAMMED, MOHAMMED GOES TO THE MOUNTAIN

When the summer season arrives and the European mountains begin to turn green and the plans change a bit for those who love snow, changing their wardrobe and activities is something that Navarro does not apply. Well, the heat just starts on the continent, it goes to one of the mountain ranges with the steepest slopes in the world: The Andes. That is his shelter during the summer and thus he can summarize his years with an eternal winter, that is why he is so good at what he does.

6. AYMAR WAS A GUEST AT A FWT AND ENDED UP SURPRISING EVERYONE WITH HIS TALENT

Knowing how to take advantage of an opportunity, this is how Aymar would define what happened to him on the Freeride World Tour, since he attended as a guest in 2017 and ended up marking an admired debut, qualifying on the podium, where his daring descents in the Serra de la Balma de Arcalis they awarded him third place.

7. SUSO FOLGAR AND ÁLEX MARTÍNEZ WERE HIS GREAT INFLUENCES

It could be said that Navarro made radical decisions when he finally opted for freeride and put aside alpine skiing, which no longer inspired him much. But behind this were two Freeride figures who moved his fibers and encouraged him to dive into the powder. They were, Suso Folgar who is called 'mountain goat' and who is one of the most impressive representatives of the Aran Valley and Alex Martinez, also a freerider from the Aran Valley and with whom Navarro has participated in documentaries about the Aran Valley, such as 'Aran ath limit'.

8. WHEN HE WAS LITTLE, HE ALSO OCCURRED FOR THE TRIAL MOTORCYCLE

If it were so, winter may be eternal, but there are times when even the most expert must distract their minds. And Aymar has done it since he was a child, when during the summer seasons he opted to practice Moto Trial, everything possible to avoid staying at home. Now, he no longer does Moto Trial but does mountain biking, or diving, and even He claims to be a soccer fan.

9. AYMAR NAVARRO'S ACHIEVEMENTS ARE THANKS TO CONSIDERING HIMSELF A METHODICAL PERSON

Without discipline and passion it is very difficult for us to achieve a percentage of our dreams and perhaps abandoning the path in the middle is the most common thing. For Aymar, this is clear to him, which is why his passion is conglomerated in a complete cycle that feeds from beginning to end. From a daily arduous training, which involves mountain demands such as riding a bike or climbing, and then studying every detail of each track and thus giving 200% of what your body and mind can offer you.

10. THE FUTURE OF AYMAR NAVARRO

One of his dreams is to open a Freeride school. Well, he considers that it is necessary to make noise about this sport and after that continue his training as a freeride teacher and be able to provide more training to those who are passionate about snow sports.
