The best sporting events are back in 2021!
We say goodbye to a year full of complications, but with new challenges to welcome with all of 2021! Due to the worldwide health complications caused by Covid-19, many of the activities and sporting events had to be canceled and postponed until further notice, leaving us looking forward to the day of the celebration of each of the sports events.
Here are the dates of the sporting events that have already confirmed their participation and presence in 2021!
ALPINE SKI WORLD CUP 2021
At the beginning of October this year, the Alpine Committee held a meeting where the new calendar proposal was decided, including important changes; among them the control and limit of the capacity. It's one of those 2021 sporting events that we just can't stop watching this year!
The Cup began, as it traditionally does, with the giant slaloms in Sölden, Austria, during the last weekend of October. He then continued on to Lech-Zürs, also in Austria. After Finland, Levi, and upon completion there, he continued on to North America (Lake Louise, Beaver Creek, and Killington). After that tour, the skiers ended up in Europe.
It had been planned to be held in January 2021, however in November they announced its cancellation. The test that was to be held at the Japanese Zao station was suspended due to the logistical, health and safety challenge posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Japan has imposed a migration ban that affects more than a hundred countries, complicating the transfer of many of the athletes.
We leave you the calendar from February 2021, although unfortunately we cannot be sure that it will be maintained:
- February 5 and 6: Garmisch (Germany), a super-giant and a descent.
- From February 8 to 21 World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo (Italy)
- February 27 and 28: Yanqing (China), 1 relegation and 1 supergiant (Test JJ.00.Beijing 2022).
- March 6 and 7: Jasna (Slovakia), a giant and a slalom
- March 12 and 13: Are (Sweden), two slaloms
- March 17-21: Lenzerheide (Switzerland), Finals with a downhill, super-giant, parallel team, giant and slalom event.
The only trip outside Europe will be the women's circuit to Yanqing (China) to debut the speed tracks of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games.
WORLD SNOWBOARD CHAMPIONSHIP 2021
The 14th World Snowboard Championships has announced its next celebration in the town of Zhangjiakou, China from February 18 to 28, 2021, under the Organization of the International Ski Federation and the China Ski Federation. Ski.
In the event that the current health situation continues, it is considered to hold the event behind closed doors, with the possibility of even canceling it in the event that everything worsens.
TOKYO 2021 PARALYMPIC GAMES
The Tokyo 2021 Paralympic Games have been rescheduled to take place between August 24 and September 5, 2021, after confirmation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). This decision was made based on evaluating the different changes and adaptations to be made due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This international competition founded by Ludwig Guttmann in 1960, especially for athletes with all kinds of disabilities, including physical, mental or sensory, such as amputations, blindness, cerebral palsy and intellectual disabilities.In this way, they promote the equal treatment of athletes with disabilities with Olympians.However, such participants may, by achieving the minimum goals necessary to qualify in a specific discipline, participate in the traditional Olympic games.
For those of you who didn't know, the Paralympics started as a small event with World War II veterans in 1948, growing into one of the biggest sporting events at the end of the 20th century. The Games promote the equal treatment of athletes with disabilities with Olympians.
KILOMETER LAUNCHED
For those who love speed, here comes the 2021 Speed Ski World Championship,also known as Kilometer Thrown or KL). Its next edition will take place in Grandvalira. Additionally, at the FIS Congress held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, the Andorran station has been awarded other events. Among them, a test World Cup in 2021.
Excellent news for ski lovers on the peninsula, is that they will be able to enjoy some of the most important events of the Kilometer Launched, the fastest non-motorized sport in the world. WORLD PARA SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP 2021
The first joint event of Para Alpine Skiing, Para Biathlon, Para Cross Country Skiing and Para Snowboarding had originally been scheduled for February 2021, specifically on the dates 7-20, but has now been pushed back to early January 2021. 2022. The main reason for the changes is due to the global pandemic and all the challenges it brings with it.
The decision was made by the board of the Norwegian Ski Association, in consultation with World Para Snow Sports, the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee, the Norwegian Biathlon Federation and the Norwegian Board Sports Federation. The announcement came after a series of meetings and close dialogue with the Norwegian national health authorities about future developments. The event is scheduled to welcome 750 participants from more than 30 nations and 700 volunteers. The new competition schedule will be announced later.
THE ULTRA TRAIL OF MONT-BLANC
One of the most anticipated sporting events of the year for lovers of long-distance running. This year, the race was to be held between France, Italy and Switzerland in August, but it had to be cancelled, as were most of the races. As confirmed by the organization, the 2021 UTMB of Mont-Blanc will take place as it is traditionally, along the trails of the Pays du Mont-Blanc and will cross France, Italy, between days August 23 to 29, 2021.
The race will include its 7 distances: UTMB of 170K and 10.000 meters of positive elevation gain, CCC of 101K, TDS of 145K, OCC of 56K, PTL of 300K and 25.000 meters of positive elevation gain, MCC of 40K and YCC of 15K. Pay attention! Registration will open in January and February, and not in December as has been done in previous years.
X GAMES 2021
The X Games are also waiting for 2021, after they have canceled their summer edition. ESPN resumes the winter sports competition from January 29 to 31 at Buttermilk Mountain, Aspen Snowmass (Colorado, United States).
An event where the best riders in the world of skiing and snowboarding meet to measure their skills and disciplines of slopestyle, halfpipe or big air. As with the rest of the events, the X GAMES will also have to adapt to the new prevention measures due to the pandemic, to ensure the safety of the staff and all the athletes.
Some of the new measures that they will implement, is that it will be an event without an audience, allowing fans to watch it through ESPN or streaming. Nor will there be disciplines such as the snowmobile and snowbike.
The good news for this coming season is that the presence of the laureate Shaun White, who has not competed since 2017, will stand out, and additionally there will be the presence of the athlete Chloe Kim, a specialist in the halpipe snowboard test.

TRANSPYR COAST TO COAST 2021
Considered one of the ten best staged mountain bike races in the world. Postponed due to the pandemic, but to the joy of many, not cancelled! Of course, it must have been adapted with a new format that includes stricter health measures; among them, a limited capacity of 20 participants. The postponement of the event has allowed the organization to prepare the proposal for an appropriate and more controlled format at the health level. Any type of agglomeration will be avoided and the protocols will be maintained, without leaving aside the fun and all the experience of the Pyrenees.
The organization announced the new dates of the race: from June 13 to 19, 2021.Likewise, registrations already registered for this year have been postponed to the 2021, 2022 and 2023 editions. The Transpyr Coast to Coast race, after 10 years proposing a route that has made the Pyrenees known, believes that this version, despite being different, will excite the hundreds of cyclists who participate year after year.With these established dates and good news about the return of some sporting events, we look forward to the arrival of 2021!
