FREERIDE WORLD TOUR 2022: EXCITING PHASE IN ORDINO ARCALIS

After the spectacular start that we were able to experience in Baqueira-Beret, the debut location in this Freeride World Tour 2022, we went a little further north of the globe and arrived in Andorra... and what a way to get there! ! In the previous article we also put you in context about the Spanish participants and the scoring criteria of this competition model, where line, speed, technique, air&style and control are key when the jury deliberates. In this second phase, the day was held this past January 30 in Ordino Arcalis (Andorra), a destination that has been hosting the FWT for several years now. Thus, in today's article we follow our Spanish riders on their descents and see the evolution of one of the most exciting competitions of the year. Let's see how it's been!

PASSION FOR THE FREERIDE WORLD TOUR

What moves us is passion. See delivered athletes. Understand the impact of a championship like this. Therefore, before doing this exciting follow-up to the Freeride World Tour 2022, we would like to show you this video created from the same organization years ago. Far from being a product of its main sponsor, it is the clear image of what this modality means: adventure, adrenaline, and emotion. It is curious how, thanks to the contrast between some drawings in "comic" format and the shots of different riders, one can understand that freeriding is that dream that one has as a child and that the skier relives in each of his descents outside of clue. After all, freeriding requires imagination, self-confidence and daring, but also maturity, technique and a decisive attitude. An example of this is the moment in the video in which the tip of the pencil breaks: the same happens in freeride. Falling down is essential to not do it again, stop to "sharp pointe" and come back even stronger.

ORDINO ARCALIS: ONE OF THE FAVORITE DESTINATIONS OF THE FREERIDE WORLD TOUR

It was in 2015 when the Freeride World Tour arrived for the first time in Andorra, our neighboring country and where those of us who are part of the Uller team have skied so many times. With the landscape that it presents and the good snow conditions that it usually presents, there is no doubt that it is the perfect setting for freeriders. She was even chosen for the opening of this competition in 2016!

However, Ordino Arcalis is not only one of the favorites of the Freeride World Tour, but also hosts the competition of another modality: Andorra Skimo. After its cancellation in the past year 2021 due to Covid, what will be the sixth edition of this journey of the refuges with mountain skis returns, and will have a racing program for all levels. We know that these are two totally different competitions as far as modality is concerned, but without a doubt this shows that the town of Ordino Arcalis is highly valued by organizations to carry out their competitions there thanks to its quality and varied offer. It must be for a reason, right?

AYMAR NAVARRO CLOSES THE PODIUM WITH A SPECTACULAR DESCENT

After the hard start for the great skier Aymar Navarro in the first phase of the Freeride World Tour held in Baqueira-Beret, the Aranese surprised us with a renewed, fresh attitude and, most importantly: no injuries from the fall in the past decline. As he has shown on other occasions, Aymar goes all out, and this time he has opted for a complicated line with numerous jumps in a location that has given him so much joy. She had to beat her closest rival, Jamesa Hampton, who had scored 79.67 points, and it has done so. He has achieved a great fourth position, going up in the final classification table.

FOURTH POSITION FOR SNOWBOARDER NÚRIA CASTÁN

As in charge of the inauguration of the women's Snowboard category on this day of the Freeride World Tour 2022, the snowboarder has demonstrated to the jury her drawing and direction capacity on a mountain already trodden by the previous categories. This factor adds a degree of difficulty to all the competing snowboarders, and Núria has known how to handle herself favorably. She has scored a total of 39 points in what, with the exception of a couple of falls in which she has not been able to hold on to the table, has been a descent to be proud of. The broadcast shows how the athlete herself has not been satisfied with her performance, but we are sure that we still have a lot of her to see in the following phases.

ABEL MOGA GIVES IT ALL AGAIN

Learning from the great Aymar Navarro, Moga has a way of skiing that is very similar to the Aranese and is once again giving his all in this second phase of the FWT 2022 in Ordino Arcalis. He has begun his descent on a risky face, but with the intention of ensuring originality and skill in jumping. Demonstrating great fluency although lacking some control, the jury has qualified him with 71.33 points. It's not bad for the native of Valle de Arán but, given the high level of the day, it places him in eleventh position in this phase. Great Abel!

SHOCKING FALLS IN THE FREERIDE WORLD TOUR ORDINO 2022

This day of the Freeride World Tour 2022 has been full of scares that have put more than one heart in the stomach. The Andorran Joan Aracil has been the rider who, within the men's ski modality, has taken the worst part when he made his descent in minute 1:22:07. In an attempt to do a back flip on a rock ledge, he hit his head hard and medical assistance came in just a few seconds to check on the athlete's condition. Due to this, there has been a break in the competition for almost an hour, but it has subsequently resumed without problems. You can see it all in this video replay of the competition.
